Bohemia!
Beethoven’s heroic Leonora Overture opens this concert followed by a piano concerto by Mozart, so admired by Beethoven that he frequently performed it himself. Performed in this concert by our soloist, Martin James Bartlett, it stands proud as one of the most admired works for piano and orchestra in the repertoire. Dvořák’s cheerful and optimistic 8th symphony forms the second half of the concert composed on the occasion of his election to the Bohemian Academy of Science, Literature and Arts in 1890.
