Beethoven’s majestic Egmont Overture opens Firebird’s 2018/19 Season in truly monumental form, conducted by Firebird’s own George Jackson. Alongside is Bruch’s beautiful Violin Concerto performed by the Belgian violinist Leonard Schreiber – and is considered to be one of the most popular concertos ever composed.
The second half features two magical works by Dvořák, opening with his ‘Song to the Moon’ from his opera Rusalka and sung by rising star Verity Wingate. And secondly the cheery and lyrical 8th Symphony which draws its inspiration from the Bohemian folk music that Dvořák so loved.
