Dvorak’s New World
Brahms Violin Concerto in D, Op. 77
Dvorak Symphony no. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (‘From the New World’)
London Firebird Orchestra
Conductor George Jackson
Violin Matteo Cimatti
Firebird’s 14th Season of Concerts opens with Brahms’s glorious Violin Concerto, for which we welcome Matteo Cimatti as soloist for the first time.
The prize-winning Italian violinist joins us fresh from engagements in Lausanne, Lithuania and Florence and successes in Concours Feast of Duos International Competition, the Premio Postacchini International Violin Competition and the Premio Crescendo Competition. Praised by ANSA for “refined playing and melodious and intense tone,” his rich, singing style perfectly suits the Brahms.
The concert’s second half features Dvorak’s enthralling New World Symphony, which was written when the Bohemian composer relocated to New York as Principal of the city’s Conservatory. Filled with Dvorak’s energy and vigour, captivating melodic lines and exciting climaxes; the symphony never fails to invigorate.
Our very own George Jackson conducts, in his 12th season with Firebird. George has had a busy summer conducting with Amarillo Symphony in Texas, of which he is Music Director, Grange Park Opera and the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Firebird’s Friends & Benefactors are invited to a private pre-concert reception before this concert, hosted by Marc Corbett-Weaver, the orchestra’s Artistic Director & CEO.
