Yury Revich violin
At Firebird’s Summer Concert 2019 we welcome the magnificent violinist Yury Revich who joins us for the first time. Yury is internationally renowned and will be performing Paganni’s Violin Concerto no. 2 La Campanella on his Stradivarius violin. Rossini’s bracing Overture to the Barber of Seville opens the concert. After the interval we hear a world première by the winner of the Firebird Young Composer of the Year Competition, Angela Slater. Her new pieces entitled Twilight Inversions was inspired by scenes of clouds moving slowly above Snowdonian hills.
Continuing the theme of landscapes, the concert’s symphony is Sibelius’s Fifth. Its last movement’s famously grand theme came into the composer’s mind when he saw sixteen swans in diamond-shape flight above him while walking in the mountains of Finland. He described the experience in his diary as ‘possibly the greatest day of my life!’ – which the symphony’s majestic music captures so wonderfully.
