The mysterious overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream - composed by the 17-year-old Mendelssohn - forms the magical opening to a concert of music from the heart of 19th century European classical music. Schumann’s heart-rending cello concerto will be performed by the dazzling cellist Raphael Wallfisch before Brahms’s great Beethovenian inspired First Symphony.
