Beethoven’s vast and heroic fifth piano concerto probably gained the epithet Emperor from its English publisher – this concerto has no association with any emperor! Yes it stands proud as one of the most admired works for piano and orchestra in the repertoire.
We are delighted to welcome back the talented pianist George Harliono to perform this magnificent concerto with the Firebird Orchestra.
As the perfect foil to this we have a great symphony by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. An immediate success since its 1943 premiere, many of the musical themes stem from his then-unfinished opera, The Pilgrim’s Progress.
